MaPrimeRénov New conditions in 2024

As part of the Finance Bill for 2024, the Government has announced an exceptional investment of an additional 1.6 billion euros to support home energy renovation through the MaPrimeRénov' scheme. This unprecedented financial commitment is designed to step up the pace of renovation work, with an emphasis on large-scale projects. At the same time, new conditions will be applied to MaPrimRénov to make this financial aid even more effective and efficient.

Significant changes in 2024

Implemented on January1, 2020, MaPrimeRénov' is a public subsidy designed to encourage all homeowners and landlords to carry out energy renovation projects in their homes built 15 years or more ago. These conditions will not change in 2024. However, from January1:

  • MaPrimeRénov' will be refocused on comprehensive renovations. This means that homeowners will have to carry out at least two projects (for example, wall insulation and replacing an old boiler with a heat pump).
  • The work carried out must enable at least two classes to be gained on the Energy Performance Diagnostic (DPE).
  • Assistance for the installation of geothermal air/water heat pumps will double from €1,000 to €2,000 for low- and middle-income households. However, this assistance will only be available to owners of homes with a DPE rating between A and E, i.e. those that are not "thermal passoires".
  • MaPrimeRénov' will also take summer comfort into account, by targeting thermal kettles in the same way as heatwasters. Costs linked to improving summer comfort will be included in the eligible expenses for this pathway (installation of heat pumps, including reversible air/air models, air mixers and solar protection for glazed surfaces).

A supported program

On January1, 2024, MaPrimeRénov' introduces a new feature: an assisted pathway for households wishing to undertake renovation work that will enable them to aim for an improvement of at least two classes on their Diagnostic de Performance Énergétique (DPE). It is particularly aimed at low-energy homes (classified F and G). By committing to this process, households will receive not only systematic support, but also an increased bonus.

The new program, which is accessible to all regardless of income, replaces MaPrimeRénov' Sérénité and the MaPrimeRénov' global renovation package. Each project will be systematically supported by an independent third party, Mon accompagnateur Rénov', offering technical, administrative and financial assistance. The cost of this support will be covered at different levels depending on household income, up to 100% for the most modest, with a ceiling of €2,000, rising to €4,000 in specific cases of substandard housing and fuel poverty for households on the lowest incomes.
As part of a supported program, funding rates and eligible work ceilings will be significantly increased, offering up to 90% funding for a very modest household, for work costing between €40,000 and €70,000 depending on the project.

A higher income ceiling

From January1, 2024, the income ceilings used to qualify for Anah and MaPrimRénov' grants will be 4.8% higher than in 2023. To prove their income, applicants must provide either a copy of their 2023 tax notice, or, for those not subject to tax, a 2023 income tax status notice, based on 2022 income.
