The government's water efficiency plan

In 2019, in order to address the water crisis affecting many regions of France, Emmanuel Macron launched the "Water Sobriety Plan," aiming to reduce water consumption by 10% in all sectors by 2030.

The government has proposed 53 measures to redefine French water management policy, as part of the "water plan" presented on 30 March 2023. The objective is to prepare the French for the summer of 2023 and to avoid drinking water cuts as much as possible.

In particular, the government plans to set up a "water Ecowatt", based on the Ecowatt model, which helps households to control their electricity consumption, by introducing progressive water pricing. Communication campaigns are also planned to raise consumer awareness of the importance of water conservation, encouraging simple everyday actions such as turning off the tap while brushing your teeth or taking shorter showers.

As of 2024, water-saving kits and rainwater harvesters will also be installed for individuals, depending on the needs of the territories. For new buildings, work on rainwater recovery will be undertaken to reduce water consumption and achieve the 2030 objective of the plan.

The plan also calls for investment in research and development of more water-efficient technologies, including research into the use of treated wastewater for irrigation, as well as precision irrigation techniques that apply water directly to the roots of plants.

These measures represent a strong commitment by the French government to water management and the preservation of this precious resource for future generations. Every little gesture counts!
