In our individualistic society, it is salutary to think of others. A little help to an association and in particular to the one for medical research will certainly help our researchers who work in the shadow.
With the confinements, the French have been numerous to make a donation. But the researchers still need you. Keep up the momentum by always being generous.
Donate with the League
According to an Odoxa study conducted for the National and Regional Observatory of Generosity, in 2021, despite a context full of uncertainties, the French continued to donate an average of 207 € per year.
Medical research and the fight against diseases remain the favorite cause of the French, all regions included (38% of donations). It is ahead of child protection (27%), animal protection, species preservation (25%) and environmental protection. The study shows that the main motivation for giving is the need and desire to act.
Choosing to donate to a medical research center allows scientists to continue their research projects to reverse the disease and find new treatments.
Don't hesitate to make a donation to the Ligue contre le cancer. Founded in 1918, this non-profit organization is recognized as a public utility and relies not only on your generosity but also on the commitment of its volunteers and employees. Your donation will help finance research programs and help patients by accompanying them in the fight against the disease. By giving, you are actively contributing to the evolution of medicine in its techniques, methods and practices. You participate at your level and in your own way in research projects that are increasingly innovative and promising. It is always said that small streams make big rivers!
You are thus associated with the next great scientific advances and are certain to contribute to the development of new therapeutic strategies that will benefit everyone.
Pink October: This is the month dedicated to the fight against breast cancer. From October 1st to 31st, health professionals, NGOs and associations are gathered around the world to provide information on breast cancer screening.
Donation or bequest: several ways to give
Giving to an association can take different forms. If you want to make a spontaneous donation, you can log on to the chosen site and make an online donation. It is also possible to donate a sum of money (by check, direct debit at regular intervals, SMS and crypto-currency), to give up income or products (rent, interest from investments, royalties from brands and patents...).
In a more "thoughtful" way, you can make a gift or a bequest. So, should I give or bequeath? In both cases, it is a donation.
You have the right to leave all or part of your assets to a foundation, an association... or to bequeath certain assets to relatives. A bequest is a gift made by will. You can therefore change your mind and redo your will since it will only take effect upon your death. Before making a bequest, you must determine how much you want to or can pass on.
There are 3 situations:
If you have children, the bequest cannot exceed the available portion: 1 child = 1/2 available share, 2 children = 1/3 available share, and 3 or more children = 1/4 available share;
If you have no children, your spouse has a re
If you have no heirs, you can give all of your assets to an association or a foundation, for example.
However, the gift or donation is made during your lifetime and is irrevocable.
Ask your notary to help you draw up a will providing for a legacy.
Giving while reducing your taxes
To benefit from the tax reduction, the donation, whatever its form, must be made without any direct or indirect consideration for the donor. The donor must not receive any benefits in exchange. If you receive goods of little importance (greeting cards, calendars, pens...), the value of these counterparts must not exceed one quarter of the amount of the donation, with a maximum of 65 € per year.
By donating or bequeathing to an association or foundation, you can therefore benefit from a tax advantage. The chosen organization must meet several criteria:
- be non-profit;
- have a social purpose and a disinterested management;
-not operate for the benefit of a restricted circle of people (as is the case, for example, for parent-teacher associations, veterans' associations, etc.));
- the association must be philanthropic, educational, scientific, social, humanitarian, sports, family, cultural or contribute to the enhancement of heritage or the defense of the environment.
If these conditions are met and if you are subject to income tax, you can deduct 66% of the amount of your donation from your income tax, up to a limit of 20% of taxable income.
If you are subject to the Impôt sur la Fortune Immobilière (IFI), you can deduct from your tax 75% of the amount of your donation, up to a limit of 50 000 €.
If you have chosen to leave a legacy, you will be exempt from transfer duties.
To declare your donation to the tax authorities: When filling out your income tax return, you must indicate in box 7 UF or 7 UG (in 2021 depending on the date of the donation) the payments made and you must have in your possession the proof of your donation given by the association.
